Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken swift action against one of its high-ranking officials in Shiroro Local Government, suspending Mohammed Auta, the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, with immediate effect. This drastic measure comes amid allegations of anti-party activities that have left the party’s reputation in the council reeling.
Hon. Tanko Galadima, Chairman of the ADC in Shiroro Local Government, announced Auta’s suspension during a press conference, detailing a range of serious allegations against the embattled official. These include issuing fraudulent party membership cards and extortion, which Galadima claims Auta carried out without registering the individuals involved in the official ward register.
Moreover, Auta is accused of misrepresenting himself as the current chairman of the party, organizing fake meetings, and causing division within the party ranks. These actions have not only harmed the party’s reputation in the council but also led to a breakdown in trust among its members.
Galadima emphasized that the decision to suspend Auta was not taken lightly, with all 25 chairmen of ADC in the state unanimously backing the state chairman, Hassan Musa. The suspension is a testament to the party’s commitment to upholding its integrity and ensuring fairness and transparency in addressing internal conflicts.
In a related development, 15 members of the Egwa Ward Executive have signed a letter requesting the ADC state chairman to set up an investigative committee to examine Auta’s actions. The move is seen as a crucial step in addressing the allegations, which allegedly violate the party’s constitution, particularly Article 22.
The ADC leadership in the state remains resolute in its dedication to fairness, transparency, and the rule of law. As the party moves forward, it is clear that any behavior deemed detrimental to its values and principles will not be tolerated. With Auta’s suspension, the ADC is sending a strong message that accountability and integrity are paramount in its pursuit of democratic excellence.
In a region where party politics can be fiercely contested, the ADC’s swift action against Auta serves as a timely reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in maintaining the trust of party members and the general public. As Nigeria’s democratic landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the ADC will navigate this challenging episode and emerge stronger and more resilient.
