Nigerian Lawmaker Vows to Reclaim Lost Seats in Kano State
A prominent lawmaker from Nigeria’s Kano State has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will reclaim the Shanono and Bagwai House of Assembly seats lost to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the recent rerun election. Sani Bala Tsanyawa, who represents the Tsanyawa/Ghari Federal Constituency, made the assertion in Kano, stating that the APC will do everything in its power to reverse the outcome.
According to Tsanyawa, there was no basis for the APC to have lost its stronghold in the area, arguing that the election was “well rigged” and failed to meet the standard requirements of electoral procedures. “Historically, APC has never lost Shanono and Bagwai, including my Tsanyawa/Ghari constituents, because Kano North is entirely our stronghold,” he claimed. “So, saying we have lost those areas is nothing but lies.”
The lawmaker expressed conviction that the APC will soon reclaim its victory in Shanono and Bagwai, describing the conduct of the last election as “a sham that will not stand the test of time.” He also pointed to the APC’s resurgence at the national level, attributing it to the efforts of President Tinubu in reviving the nation’s economy and social well-being.
Tsanyawa’s comments come as the APC seeks to consolidate its position in Kano State and nationwide. The party has been working to regain ground lost in recent elections, and the lawmaker’s assertion reflects the determination of APC leaders to reclaim their strongholds. As the Nigerian electoral landscape continues to evolve, the outcome of the APC’s efforts will be closely watched by observers both locally and internationally.
The controversy surrounding the rerun election in Kano State highlights the challenges faced by Nigeria’s electoral system, which has been criticized for its lack of transparency and accountability. The APC’s claims of election rigging and irregularities underscore the need for electoral reforms and improved oversight mechanisms to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
In the broader context, the APC’s bid to reclaim lost seats in Kano State is part of a larger struggle for dominance in Nigerian politics. As the country approaches future elections, the APC’s performance in states like Kano will be crucial in determining its national fortunes. With the stakes high, the APC will likely continue to push for electoral reforms and improved governance, while also working to strengthen its grassroots support and campaign machinery.
