Benue State Governor Denies Role in Failed Speaker Impeachment Attempt

Benue State Governor Denies Involvement in Failed Attempt to Impeach Assembly Speaker

In a recent statement, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has refuted any claims of his involvement in the unsuccessful bid to remove Aondona Dajoh, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. This clarification came following a reported attempt by some members of the House to impeach Speaker Dajoh on Thursday.

The Benue State House of Assembly swiftly responded to this move by suspending four members for a period of three months. This disciplinary measure was taken during the House’s plenary on Friday, in reaction to the members’ alleged roles in the thwarted impeachment plot.

Governor Alia’s statement, issued by his Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula in Makurdi, emphasized the governor’s unwavering respect for the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers. Furthermore, it highlighted Alia’s esteem for the Assembly and his continued commitment to responding to all communications and resolutions forwarded by the House.

As illustration of this dedication, Alia promptly implemented critical resolutions conveyed to his office by the Assembly just days prior. This act underscored his ongoing collaboration with the Dajoh-led Assembly, and the statement reaffirmed his pledge of support for the Assembly’s legislative duties in the interest of advancing Benue State’s development.

By disavowing any involvement in the attempted impeachment, Governor Alia reinforces his commitment to the rule of law and fosters stability within the state’s governing bodies. This move also aims to sustain the harmonious working relationship between the Governor and the Assembly.

The rapid resolution of these internal challenges will likely reassure Benue State residents of their elected officials’ capacity for decisive action and cooperative governance, allowing the state to continue its efforts toward sustainable growth and progress.
