The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has issued a pressing call to the Federal Government of Nigeria to ramp up efforts aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians. This appeal comes amidst the ongoing security challenges that continue to plague various parts of the country. Led by its Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, the forum conveyed its concerns during a meeting held in Gusau, Zamfara State.
At the heart of the forum’s communiqué was an acknowledgment of the notable progress achieved by certain states in addressing their security challenges through locally driven initiatives. However, this acknowledgment was tempered by a deep-seated concern over the persistence of violence and insecurity in several regions. The states of Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue, among others, were singled out as areas where the loss of lives and property remains a dire issue.
The PDP Governors’ Forum commended the Zamfara State Government for its commendable efforts in curbing insecurity within the state. Yet, despite these successes, the forum emphasized its profound concern over the continued deterioration of the security situation nationwide. It urged the Federal Government to adopt a more proactive, responsive, and coordinated approach to protect lives, property, and restore peace across all affected regions.
Beyond security matters, the governors also addressed internal party issues, expressing heartfelt appreciation to party members and supporters for their unwavering resilience and loyalty. This appreciation was set against the backdrop of recent by-elections, where the party faced challenging political circumstances. The strength of party structures at the grassroots level and the commitment of PDP leaders were highlighted as key factors in the party’s ability to withstand orchestrated defections and attempts to destabilize it.
In reaffirming their support for the resolutions reached at the 101st National Executive Committee meeting held in July 2025, the governors underscored their commitment to the successful conduct of the party’s National Convention scheduled for November 15, 2025. They warned against efforts by “anti-party elements” aimed at derailing the process, stressing the importance of unity among stakeholders.
The forum concluded by reaffirming its commitment to purposeful leadership and to delivering policies that would promote national unity, economic growth, and improved livelihoods for all Nigerians. In a gesture of solidarity, the governors extended their appreciation to the government and people of Zamfara State for their hospitality and commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his impactful leadership, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, education, health, security, and social welfare.
In addition, the PDP Governors’ Forum expressed condolences to the people of Zamfara on the passing of the Emir of Gusau and to the Government and people of Oyo State over the recent loss of respected traditional rulers. This expression of condolences reflects the forum’s recognition of the importance of traditional leadership in Nigerian society and its commitment to respecting and honoring the country’s cultural heritage.
The call by the PDP Governors’ Forum for enhanced security measures underscores the gravity of the security situation in Nigeria and the urgent need for effective, coordinated action by the Federal Government. As the country grapples with these challenges, the commitment of its leaders to protecting the lives and property of its citizens will be crucial in restoring peace and stability. The international community watches with interest as Nigeria navigates these complexities, conscious of the country’s significant role in regional and global affairs.
