In a move to clear the air, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rebutted allegations of deception made by Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former running mate of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate. The ADC’s response came after Datti Baba-Ahmed accused the coalition of deceiving Nigerians during an interview on Channels Television.
According to Jackie Wayas, the ADC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Peter Obi has reaffirmed his commitment to the coalition, contradicting Datti Baba-Ahmed’s claims. Wayas expressed hope that Datti Baba-Ahmed would also join the coalition, much like Obi, to contribute to the shared vision of a better Nigeria. “Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is a respected voice who has always stood for integrity and justice, and since the coalition is a collective effort that requires the strength and skills of all patriots, we sincerely hope he comes on board,” Wayas stated.
The controversy began when Datti Baba-Ahmed expressed his willingness to run again with Obi under the Labour Party, sparking concerns about the coalition’s intentions. However, Wayas emphasized that the coalition’s primary goal is to ensure Nigeria gets good leaders in the 2027 elections. “His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi has publicly affirmed his dedication to the coalition and the adoption of ADC as the platform for the 2027 elections,” Wayas noted, referencing Obi’s public statement on July 3, 2025.
In that statement, Obi declared, “Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections.” This development underscores the coalition’s commitment to working together to achieve a common goal. By joining forces, the parties aim to bring about positive change and provide Nigeria with effective leadership.
The ADC’s response to Datti Baba-Ahmed’s allegations highlights the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving a shared vision for Nigeria’s future. As the country approaches the 2027 elections, the coalition’s efforts to promote good governance and leadership will be closely watched. With the ADC and other parties working together, there is hope for a brighter future for Nigeria, one that is characterized by integrity, justice, and effective leadership.
