Nigeria Manufacturers partner NDPHC for direct power supply

Electricity Tariff Hike Affects Only 1.5 Million Customers Nationwide, Says FG

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Kano Branch has expressed interest in partnering with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) to secure direct power supply, bypassing utility firms in the state. This development aims to address the longstanding issue of unreliable electricity supply, which has hindered industrial growth in Kano State.

A delegation of 20 members from MAN Kano, led by Alhaji Ali Madugu, Managing Director of Dala Foods, visited the NDPHC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, to discuss the potential partnership. During the meeting, Alhaji Madugu emphasized the readiness of MAN Kano to procure power directly from NDPHC, citing the critical need for reliable electricity to revive industries and sustain jobs in the state.

In response, NDPHC’s MD, Adighije, assured the delegation of the company’s commitment to supporting manufacturers within the regulatory framework and infrastructural capacity. She highlighted the company’s intention to drive industrial growth, create jobs, and enhance socio-economic development through partnerships with the manufacturing sector. The Executive Directors of Corporate Services and Networks provided a detailed roadmap for MAN Kano to utilize NDPHC’s power supply opportunities.

NDPHC plans to commercialize approximately 200 megawatts of its stranded electricity by the end of 2025, according to Adighije. She had previously expressed concerns about the low uptake of electricity from the market by distribution companies, which has impacted the company’s operations. The meeting between MAN Kano and NDPHC ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about a mutually beneficial partnership to unlock industrial potential in Kano.

The proposed partnership is significant, as it could potentially address the power supply challenges facing manufacturers in Kano State. With the Eligible Customer framework in place, NDPHC is poised to work with MAN Kano to provide a reliable and sustainable power supply, driving industrial growth and socio-economic development in the region. As the partnership progresses, it is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy and job market.
