Kebbi State Supports NG-CARES Programme

Kebbi: Avoid cutting corners, Gov Idris warns contractors

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the NG-CARES programme, also known as KAURA CARES in the state. The programme, which focuses on community action for resilience and economic stimulus, has received full support from the state government. According to Governor Idris, the programme has enabled the state to provide grants of N100,000 to 65,000 people, totaling N6.5 billion, a first for a subnational government in Nigeria.

The governor made this statement during the North-West Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting, which aimed to review the performance of the NG-CARES programme. He emphasized that his administration will continue to support the programme, noting that the state’s commitment to caring for its people is unwavering. Governor Idris urged participants to provide constructive feedback, which will contribute to the development of an improved NG-CARES 2.0.

The Commissioner for Budget, Dr Abba Sani Kalgo, expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for his support of the less privileged in the state. He assured that the current administration has played a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of NG-CARES across Kebbi. The state has consistently ranked among the top-performing states in the programme, according to the four assessments conducted so far.

The National Coordinator of the Zonal Stakeholders’ Meeting, Dr Abdularim Obaje, commended Governor Idris for his commitment to streamlining the programme. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the performance of the independent verification agent under NG-CARES, with the aim of strengthening the verification process. The NG-CARES programme is designed to promote community action and economic stimulus, and the state’s commitment to the programme is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of its citizens.

The Kebbi State government’s support for the NG-CARES programme is a significant development, as it demonstrates the state’s dedication to promoting economic growth and community resilience. The programme’s success in the state is a testament to the effective collaboration between the state government and other stakeholders. As the programme continues to evolve, it is likely that other states will take cue from Kebbi’s example, and work towards implementing similar initiatives to support their citizens.
