PDP Zoning Decision To Lure Back Aggrieved Members

The Peoples Democratic Party’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South is expected to pave the way for the return of disgruntled members, according to Emmanuel Ogidi, the party’s South-South National Vice Chairman. In an interview on Arise Television, Ogidi expressed confidence that the zoning structure, approved by the party’s National Executive Committee, would be well received nationwide.

The zoning committee, inaugurated two weeks prior, had engaged in extensive deliberations before reaching the decision, which Ogidi believes will help heal internal divisions within the party. While speculation surrounds potential presidential aspirants, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, the party’s immediate focus is on the success of its forthcoming national convention, scheduled for November 15-16.

Ogidi emphasized that the party is prioritizing its convention over the presidential election, stating that the latter is still a long way off. The decision to zone the presidential ticket to the South is seen as a significant step towards reconciling with aggrieved members, with Ogidi noting that many are expected to return to the party fold following the announcement.

The party’s national convention, set to take place in November, will be a crucial event in the lead-up to the presidential election. As the PDP works towards a unified front, the zoning decision is expected to play a key role in shaping the party’s trajectory. With the convention on the horizon, the party is gearing up for a critical period in its history, and the outcome of the zoning decision will likely have significant implications for the PDP’s future.
