Nigeria Launches Housing Fraud Reporting Portal

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a digital platform for reporting fraudulent activities in housing estates. This newly launched portal allows citizens to submit complaints, provide evidence, and track the progress of their reports. The initiative was announced by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry, the portal is designed to provide a safe and user-friendly platform for citizens to report incidents of fraud in housing estates across the country. The system enables real-time reporting and tracking of cases, with complaints reviewed by the Ministry in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary.

The launch of the portal is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen regulation of the housing industry and protect citizens from fraudulent practices. The Ministry has also introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System to enhance oversight of housing projects. This platform enables real-time monitoring of project progress, evaluates contractor performance, and provides a centralized repository for project documents.

The initiatives align with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which aims to promote transparency and accountability in the real estate sector. The policy requires an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to monitor housing delivery and ensure that all professionals in the built environment are properly registered.

The development of the fraud reporting portal was done in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to ensure effective tracking and follow-up of reported cases. The Ministry’s commitment to protecting citizens and improving service delivery is demonstrated through these platforms.
