The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a cautionary warning to prospective pilgrims intending to participate in the 2026 Hajj, emphasizing the importance of obtaining valid visas prior to their journey. According to Saudi authorities, individuals who attempt to perform the sacred rites without proper documentation will face severe penalties, including a fine of approximately ₦8.2 million and potential imprisonment.
This warning was conveyed during a virtual meeting between the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), where preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage were reviewed. Ustaz Abdallah Ash Shihry, acting director-general and special assistant to the deputy minister in the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, stressed the need for strict adherence to all deadlines governing the 2026 Hajj exercise.
Key dates have been established, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in November, January 4 as the final day for camp booking payments and confirmation of service contract packages, and February 1 as the deadline for uploading transport and accommodation contracts on the Nusuk Masar Portal. Furthermore, Saudi authorities have confirmed that May 1 (1st Shawwal) will remain the deadline for visa issuance.
In response, NAHCON chairman/CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, assured Saudi authorities of Nigeria’s commitment to meeting the deadlines and requirements. He pledged that the commission would collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful Hajj for Nigerian pilgrims in 2026.
The Saudi government’s emphasis on strict compliance with regulations and deadlines is aimed at ensuring a well-organized and safe pilgrimage experience for all participants. The warning serves as a reminder to intending pilgrims of the importance of proper planning and documentation to avoid any potential issues or penalties. As the 2026 Hajj approaches, Nigerian authorities and stakeholders are expected to work closely with Saudi officials to facilitate a successful and hassle-free experience for pilgrims.
