APC Official Denies Vote Buying Claims

Party chieftain reveals reasons for mass defection to APC in Abia

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations of engaging in vote buying, attributing its recent electoral successes to grassroots mobilization and effective leadership. According to Sulaiman Argungu, the party’s National Organizing Secretary, the APC adheres to the principles of open democracy, eschewing financial inducements in favor of mobilizing supporters.

In a video interview, Argungu emphasized that the party encourages its members and candidates to focus on mobilizing people rather than resorting to vote buying. He stated, “We don’t give money to anybody to go and buy votes. We believe in open democracy.” This approach, he argued, has contributed to the party’s success in various parts of the country, including a constituency in Kano State.

The APC’s national chairman has been actively involved in leading campaigns across states, a strategy aimed at inspiring confidence among party members and demonstrating commitment to the party’s success. Argungu noted that this approach has been effective in mobilizing support and achieving electoral victories.

Argungu also revealed that he monitored election activities from the party’s situation room and confirmed with party agents that there were no reports of significant malpractice, except for minor issues in Anambra State, which he personally addressed. The APC’s emphasis on grassroots mobilization and leadership is seen as a key factor in its recent successes.

The party’s stance on open democracy and its rejection of vote buying are significant in the context of Nigeria’s electoral landscape. As the country continues to navigate the complexities of its democratic process, the APC’s approach is likely to be closely watched by observers and analysts. The party’s ability to mobilize support and achieve electoral success without resorting to financial inducements will be seen as a testament to its commitment to democratic principles.
