INEC Clarifies Election Result Process and CVR Allegations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided clarification on the purpose of its Results Viewing Portal (IREV), stating that it is not intended for the collation of election results. According to INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, results uploaded on the IREV portal are for viewing purposes only and should not be considered as the final election results.

Dr. Agboke explained that INEC has a detailed process for collating results, which involves several stages, including declaration, and that the commission takes the monitoring of this process very seriously. He emphasized that the IREV portal is utilized to enhance the accuracy of results, but it is not the platform for announcing final results.

In a separate matter, INEC has dismissed allegations of monetary inducements during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as unfounded. Dr. Agboke stated that the commission is investigating these claims and urged the public to provide evidence to support any allegations. He also announced that INEC will collaborate with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prevent vote buying in the 2026 elections, warning that anyone caught engaging in this practice will face the law.

Dr. Agboke called on the media to assist INEC in educating the public about the consequences of vote buying and encouraged political parties to promote women and youth participation in politics. He also urged women to actively engage in politics to achieve gender equity. Additionally, he assured Osun residents that their votes would count in the 2026 governorship election and appealed for their cooperation and support to ensure the commission’s success.

The clarification on the IREV portal and the CVR exercise comes as INEC prepares for the 2026 elections. With the electoral commission’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, the upcoming elections are expected to be closely watched. As INEC continues to work towards preventing electoral malpractices, the cooperation of citizens, the media, and other stakeholders will be crucial in ensuring the success of the electoral process.
