The Katsina state government has allocated ₦20 million per local government for the maintenance and renovation of cemeteries, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced on Thursday. This initiative aims to serve the public good and seek divine blessings for the state. According to Governor Radda, the funds will ensure that graveyards are well taken care of, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
During a meeting with traditional rulers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates, Governor Radda unveiled a new welfare package for traditional and religious leaders. A recently passed law by the State House of Assembly will increase the salaries of all District Heads to at least Grade Level 16. Additionally, 6,652 ward heads across the state will begin receiving monthly allowances, and over 3,000 Imams and their deputies from Friday mosques will be provided with stipends.
The governor also announced that sweepers working in Izala and Darika mosques across the 34 local government areas will receive monthly allowances. Furthermore, Governor Radda highlighted the state’s efforts to enhance security, stating that over 1,500 young people have been trained and equipped to support security operations. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to unite in protecting their communities.
Senator Ibrahim Ida, representing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, praised Governor Radda’s commitment to advancing the two emirates. The governor’s initiatives demonstrate the state’s focus on the well-being of its citizens and its efforts to promote community development. With these new measures in place, the Katsina state government aims to improve the lives of its residents and foster a sense of unity and cooperation. The allocation of funds for cemetery maintenance and the introduction of the welfare package for traditional and religious leaders are significant steps towards achieving this goal.
