The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has shut down an illicit herbal medicine production facility in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The facility, known as SHIFA’UNNUR, located in Mararaba Jos, Igabi Local Government Area, was sealed due to non-compliance with minimum operational standards and operating without registration.
According to Shamsuddeen Mani, a Principal Regulatory Officer of NAFDAC, the agency received credible intelligence that led to the discovery of the unregistered facility. The facility was found to be producing multiple herbal products without regulatory approval, posing serious health risks to consumers. The equipment used in the facility was also deemed substandard.
NAFDAC acted swiftly to seize unregistered products valued at N5 million, which will be destroyed. The facility remains sealed pending further investigation.
