Anambra PDP Elders Warn Against Dissolving State Executives

PDP to hold special Expanded National Caucus meeting Monday

The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) against dissolving its elected executives. The warning was issued by the Anambra State PDP Elders Council, which met at the residence of Senator Ben Ndi Obi. The council stated that it is not aware of any lawsuit against the elected executives, nor has there been any protest regarding their election during the peaceful state congress held late last year.

According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the council expressed its support for the various organs of the party, including the National Executive Committee, National Working Committee, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and the National Caucus. The communiqué noted that the current Anambra State PDP Executive is performing well, maintaining relative peace within the party and engaging all stakeholders. The council emphasized that no injustice has been meted out to any member and that the executive has a strong working relationship with the NWC.

The council urged the NWC and the PDP Governors’ Forum to recognize that any move to destabilize the legitimate structure of the party in Anambra State could be seen as an attempt to weaken internal cohesion and cast doubts over the credibility of the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra State and the National Convention, both scheduled for November 2025. The Anambra State PDP Elders Council stated that any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would invite instability and unrest in the state.

The council, which includes prominent politicians such as former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, and a presidential aide, emphasized that there is no legal action against the executive and that everyone has been carried along. The council commended the NWC for conducting a free and fair congress in Anambra State and urged it to exercise caution and discernment regarding individuals presenting misleading information.

The Anambra State PDP Elders Council expressed its gratitude to the NWC, led by Ambassador Iliya Damagun, for its support during the challenging period. The council noted that the NWC’s actions, including the establishment of a Caretaker Committee and the conduct of a successful state congress, have been commendable. The warning by the Anambra State PDP Elders Council highlights the need for stability and cohesion within the party, particularly with the upcoming governorship elections and National Convention.
