Katsina Schools Licenses Withdrawn Effective August 13

Katsina govt revokes licenses of all private, community schools

The Katsina State Government has withdrawn the operating licenses of all private and community schools in the state, effective August 13, 2025. This decision was announced through a circular issued by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, signed by Commissioner Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa. The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Sani Danjuma, released the document in Katsina on Saturday.

According to the circular, the move is part of the government’s effort to strengthen quality assurance and standardization within the education sector. The withdrawal of licenses aims to ensure that schools operate in line with approved standards and provide quality education to students. Danjuma explained that this measure is designed to guarantee that educational institutions in the state meet the required standards.

The circular also outlined a review of fees for license application, registration, and annual renewal. Owners of affected schools are required to obtain fresh licenses by submitting proof of payment to the ministry on or before September 30, 2025. Furthermore, school operators have been warned not to increase tuition or other charges without government approval. The ministry has promised to issue additional guidelines soon, including categorization of schools and the revised fee structure.

This development is part of a broader effort by the Katsina State Government to reform the education sector. By withdrawing the operating licenses, the government seeks to regulate the activities of private and community schools, ensuring that they provide quality education to students. The move is expected to have a significant impact on the education sector in the state, affecting numerous schools and students.

The Katsina State Government’s decision to withdraw operating licenses is a significant step towards standardizing the education sector. With the deadline for obtaining fresh licenses set for September 30, 2025, school owners and operators are expected to take immediate action to comply with the new regulations. As the government continues to work towards improving the quality of education in the state, the outcomes of this decision will be closely monitored.
