The Zamfara State chapter of the Social Democratic Party has expressed concerns over the emergence of an alleged impostor claiming to be the state chairman. According to the party’s recognized state chairman, Idris Abdullahi Bangaje, Bilal Aliyu is parading himself as the state chairman despite having no affiliation with the party.
During a press conference at the party’s state headquarters in Gusau, Bangaje stated that Aliyu is not a registered member of the party and is unknown to the party’s executives at all levels. He called on security agencies to take action against Aliyu, emphasizing that his leadership is the only one recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the Inter-Party Advisory Council.
The Zamfara SDP executives, including Bangaje, were elected through a democratic process involving congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels. Bangaje maintained that his position as chairman remains legitimate until 2026, when new executives are scheduled to be elected. He emphasized that the party’s leadership structure is well-established and recognized by relevant authorities.
The incident has highlighted the importance of verifying the authenticity of claims made by individuals purporting to represent political parties. The Social Democratic Party has urged security agencies to investigate the matter and take necessary actions to prevent further confusion. As the situation develops, the party remains committed to upholding its democratic principles and ensuring that its leadership remains accountable to its members.
The allegations against Bilal Aliyu have sparked concerns about the potential for impersonation and deception within political circles. The Zamfara State chapter of the Social Democratic Party has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing the need for rigorous verification processes to prevent similar incidents in the future. With the party’s leadership structure in place until 2026, the focus remains on maintaining stability and ensuring that the party’s activities are conducted in a legitimate and orderly manner.
