Kaduna ADC Crisis: Members Seek National Intervention

A group of concerned members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State is seeking the intervention of the party’s national leadership, citing a “complete lack of unity, progress, and survival of the party” in the state. According to Adamu Ahmed Dattijo, leader of the group, recent developments have prompted them to speak out against certain individuals who are allegedly dividing and weakening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group claims that these individuals are threatening the stability of the party in Kaduna State and, if left unchecked, will sabotage efforts to build a united ADC that can win elections and bring about positive change. Specifically, they accuse former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of running the party in a dictatorial manner, neglecting collective leadership and coalition building. El-Rufai allegedly refuses to recognize the duly elected Kaduna State ADC executive committee and other stakeholders, making decisions without consultation.

This approach, the group argues, is not only disrespectful but also destructive to the party’s structure and principles. A political party, they emphasize, should be built on inclusion, consultation, and loyalty to its members, rather than being controlled by one individual or a small group of allies. The group’s leader, Dattijo, has called on the ADC’s national leadership to intervene urgently to address these concerns and ensure the party’s unity and progress.

The situation in Kaduna State is significant, as it reflects broader challenges facing the ADC in its efforts to build a strong, cohesive presence in Nigeria’s political landscape. The 2027 general elections will be crucial for the party, and internal divisions could undermine its chances of success. The national leadership’s response to the concerns raised by the Kaduna State group will be closely watched, as it will have implications for the party’s overall stability and effectiveness. With the electoral cycle approaching, the ADC’s ability to address its internal issues and present a united front will be essential to its prospects in the upcoming elections.
