Idoma diaspora community pledges increased support for agricultural, security initiatives in Benue South

The Idoma Community in the diaspora has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting agricultural and security initiatives in Benue South Senatorial District. This pledge was made at the 29th Annual Convention of the Idoma Association USA, held in Houston, Texas, from July 31 to August 2, 2025. The convention, themed “Strengthening Agriculture and Enhancing Community Safety in Idomaland,” brought together Idoma sons and daughters from around the world to address the need for security, agricultural renewal, and development in Zone C of Benue State.

The event was attended by prominent leaders, including His Royal Majesty, Agabaidu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, the Och’Idoma of Idoma Kingdom, and the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, represented by Deputy Governor Barrister Dr. Sam Ode. In his address, Dr. Prince Edwin Ochai, President of Idoma Association USA, commended the Och’Idoma’s unifying leadership and declared the diaspora’s firm support for the Idoma Traditional Area Council.

The convention emphasized the importance of peace and security as the foundation of Idoma progress. The Och’Idoma urged the diaspora to unite in supporting security initiatives and invest in modern agriculture to unlock the region’s economic potential. The Benue State Government, represented by the Deputy Governor, reaffirmed its commitment to combating insecurity and highlighted infrastructure projects and agricultural programs underway in Zone C.

The Keynote Speaker, Rev. Fr. Philemon Adem Okoh, decried the grave insecurity in Benue South and called for trained and paid vigilante groups, accountability of leaders, and reclamation of seized farmlands. The convention resolved to collaborate with local stakeholders to support security initiatives, expand agricultural investments, and prioritize security and infrastructure in Zone C.

The Idoma diaspora also reaffirmed its support for the Idoma Area Traditional Council and commended the Och’Idoma’s visionary and inclusive plans to unify the Idoma kingdom. The convention concluded with a renewed resolve to strengthen security, transform agriculture, and promote unity within Idomaland. Delegates reaffirmed their collective responsibility to harness resources, expertise, and networks to shape a secure and prosperous future for the Idoma people.

The outcomes of the convention underscore the importance of collaboration between the diaspora and local stakeholders to address the development challenges facing Benue South Senatorial District. The commitment to supporting agricultural and security initiatives is expected to contribute to the region’s economic growth and stability. As the Idoma community continues to work towards a secure and prosperous future, the significance of unity, cooperation, and strategic investment in key sectors such as agriculture and security cannot be overstated.
