Marafa Quits APC Over Injustice, Insecurity

Marafa Confirms Resignation From APC • Channels Television

Senator Kabiru Marafa has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as disclosed to Channels Television through a text message on Sunday. This development follows a meeting held by his political structure last Wednesday and Thursday, where leaders unanimously decided to leave the APC due to perceived injustice, neglect, and escalating insecurity in Zamfara State.

The meeting culminated in a communiqué that expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara, citing recent statistics that indicate the state has the highest number of kidnapping cases in the country. The group also criticized the Federal Government for allegedly politicizing insecurity during the recent Kaura Namoda bye-election, suggesting that security forces were deployed to secure the APC’s electoral victory rather than protect lives.

Furthermore, Marafa’s loyalists criticized the distribution of political appointments, claiming that Zamfara has been deliberately marginalized despite its contribution to the APC’s 2023 presidential victory. While other North-West states secured multiple ministerial slots, Zamfara received only one, and communities affected by banditry attacks have received little or no federal intervention.

The communiqué, signed by Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara and Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe, stated that the group will soon announce its next political direction, aligning with the aspirations of the Zamfara people. This decision reflects the growing dissatisfaction among some APC members in Zamfara State, who feel that their interests have not been adequately represented.

The resignation of Senator Marafa and the potential realignment of his political structure may have significant implications for the political landscape in Zamfara State and beyond. As the group prepares to announce its next steps, it remains to be seen how this development will impact the APC and the broader political dynamics in Nigeria. With security concerns and political representation at the forefront of the discussion, the situation in Zamfara State will likely continue to be a topic of interest in the coming weeks and months.
