The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Enugu State have reiterated that Chief Ugochukwu Agbala is no longer the chairman of the party in the state. This declaration was made at a meeting in Enugu, where stakeholders also decided to investigate the educational certificates of Chief Uchenna Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.
According to a communique issued after the meeting, Agbala’s removal was effected by a court order. The document was signed by notable party members, including former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Barrister Eugene Odoh, and the immediate past state chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye. The stakeholders resolved to notify the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that Agbala should no longer participate in National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
The communique stated that the stakeholders have decided to set up a committee to verify the authenticity of Chief Nnaji’s graduation and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The minister’s certificates have been shrouded in controversy since his appointment to the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.
The APC stakeholders in Enugu State praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as transformative, and endorsed him for a second term in 2027. They also expressed willingness to welcome the state governor, Peter Mbah, into the APC, stating that this would enable Enugu State to play a more significant role in national politics.
The stakeholders criticized the opposition ADC coalition, stating that it lacks a clear policy direction for the advancement of Nigeria. The meeting’s outcome highlights the ongoing developments within the APC in Enugu State and their implications for the party’s national standing.
The investigation into Chief Nnaji’s educational certificates is expected to provide clarity on the issue, which has been a subject of controversy for some time. The stakeholders’ endorsement of President Tinubu and their willingness to welcome Governor Mbah into the APC may have significant implications for the party’s fortunes in the state and at the national level.
