Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has expressed confidence in the ability of opposition leaders to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. In a recent appearance on a Channels Television program, El-Rufai stated that he and other prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, possess the necessary political expertise to challenge the ruling party.
As a founding member of the APC, El-Rufai claimed to have knowledge of the party’s inner workings, which he believes would be crucial in defeating them. “We formed the APC; we know where the dead body is buried,” he said. El-Rufai also mentioned that Atiku Abubakar, who has experience with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), could contribute valuable insights to their efforts. According to El-Rufai, their collective experience would enable them to effectively challenge the APC without relying on external factors.
The former governor criticized the current state of the economy and security under President Tinubu’s administration, stating that they have worsened. This sentiment is shared by other opposition leaders, including former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who have recently thrown their support behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition to oppose the APC.
The ADC coalition, which includes El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and Amaechi, aims to provide a unified front against the APC in the 2027 elections. With their combined political experience and knowledge of the major parties, the opposition leaders believe they can mount a successful challenge to President Tinubu’s administration. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the outcome of the 2027 elections will depend on various factors, including the ability of the opposition to present a credible alternative to the APC.
