Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed that a recent tattoo was inspired by the pain of a heartbreak. In an interview with media personality Katy Igwe, she explained that she flew a tattoo artist from Los Angeles to her home in Lagos so the work could be done in private. Savage chose a private session to avoid expressing her emotional pain in a public tattoo parlour and to create a comfortable environment free from the distractions and attention that a public setting might bring.
The singer recalled that the tattoo session was intense. Her artist was initially taken aback by the design, asking whether it was meant to be permanent, and grew increasingly concerned as the process continued because of the amount of blood involved. Savage acknowledged that the experience was challenging, but it served as a way for her to cope with the emotional turmoil she was feeling at the time.
Savage attributed the tattoo to a recent heartbreak, describing the two‑year relationship she had been in as “crazy” and expressing relief that it had ended. The decision to get the tattoo stands as a testament to the emotional upheaval she endured during that period. Her revelation offers insight into the personal struggles artists often face and how they may choose to express themselves through art or other forms of self‑expression. It also highlights the importance of prioritising emotional well‑being, especially during difficult times, and serves as a reminder to fans and fellow artists of the significance of self‑care and emotional expression.
