Party chieftain reveals reasons for mass defection to APC in Abia

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Taraba State has seen a surge in political support as members of opposition parties, notably the All Progressives Congress (APC), defect to the party. Recently, Yusuf Yuuf, the APC Ward Chairman of Bilga Ward in Ibi Local Government Council, officially resigned and joined the ADC. Yuuf submitted his resignation letter on Monday, citing a significant personal and ideological disconnect with the APC’s current direction and the needs of his constituents.

In his letter, Yuuf noted that he was one of the founding members of the APC and had served as a ward chairman, but he now perceives a growing gap between his convictions, the realities he observes, and the needs of the people he represents. He said his decision to defect came after “deep thought and careful reflection,” and he expressed gratitude to the APC for the platform it provided him and to his supporters. A copy of the resignation letter has been forwarded to the APC Zonal Chairman for Taraba South.

This defection is part of a broader trend of APC members switching to the ADC in Taraba State. Just weeks earlier, former House of Representatives member for Ibi/Wukari Federal Constituency, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, also left the APC for the ADC. The continued loss of key grassroots figures may weaken the APC’s influence in Southern Taraba and the state at large ahead of future elections.

Political analysts observe that the ADC is gaining momentum in the state, with the defection of prominent politicians expanding its support base. The implications of these defections will be closely watched as Taraba’s political landscape continues to evolve.
