Benue Governor lifts suspension on 3 officials

Governor Alia lifts suspensions on SUBEB Chairman, Otukpo LG boss, one other

The Benue State government has lifted the suspension of three public office holders, following a reversal of the decision by the state House of Assembly. Governor Hyacinth Alia had initially upheld the assembly’s resolution to suspend Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Grace Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, and Michael Uper, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission.

The suspension was lifted after the assembly, under new leadership, reversed its earlier decision and urged the governor to reinstate the affected officials. In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia acknowledged the assembly’s latest decision and directed the immediate reinstatement of the suspended officials.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to working harmoniously with all arms of government to achieve peace, progress, and good governance in Benue State. He also charged the reinstated officials to rededicate themselves to their duties, uphold high standards of accountability, and work in the best interest of the people.

The development comes after a period of uncertainty for the affected officials, who were suspended following the initial resolution by the state House of Assembly. The reversal of the decision highlights the evolving dynamics within the state’s legislative and executive branches. Governor Alia’s decision to lift the suspension demonstrates his commitment to respecting the constitutional roles of the legislature and ensuring a collaborative approach to governance.

The reinstatement of the suspended officials is expected to restore stability and continuity to the affected agencies and departments. As the Benue State government continues to navigate the complexities of governance, the governor’s commitment to transparency, responsiveness, and people-centered administration remains a key focus area. With the suspension lifted, the state government is poised to move forward with its development agenda, prioritizing the needs and interests of the people of Benue State.
