Unilorin receives 21971 applications for 2025 UTME screening

The University of Ilorin has announced that a total of 21,971 admission seekers have applied for the 2025/2026 Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination screening exercise. This figure comprises 20,220 candidates for the UTME and 1,751 candidates for Direct Entry. According to Prof Kamilu Rauf, Director of the Computer-Based Test Centre, the exercise took place from August 28 to September 4.

The number of applicants this year shows a significant increase compared to the previous year, with 4,200 more UTME candidates and 576 additional Direct Entry applicants. In 2024, the university received 15,946 UTME and 1,175 Direct Entry applications. Prof Rauf attributed the surge in applications to the university’s growing reputation for academic excellence, uninterrupted academic calendar, and efficient administration.

Last year, 12,856 candidates were admitted to the university. The institution’s commitment to maintaining a stable academic calendar is reflected in its slogan, “Better by Far.” Prof Rauf reminded candidates and their parents to adhere to examination guidelines, including dress codes and the prohibition of gadgets such as mobile phones in the examination hall. He also urged parents to avoid crowding the examination venues, as all necessary information is available on the university’s website.

The university has reassured candidates and parents that it is prepared to conduct a hitch-free exercise. To achieve this, applicants are advised to strictly adhere to the guidelines provided. The significant increase in applications highlights the university’s popularity among admission seekers. With its reputation for academic excellence and efficient administration, the University of Ilorin continues to attract a large number of students. The institution’s ability to maintain a stable academic calendar is a major factor in its appeal to prospective students.
