The University of Ilorin announced that 21,971 admission seekers have applied for the 2025/2026 Post‑Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (PUTME) screening exercise. This total includes 20,220 candidates for the UTME and 1,751 candidates for Direct Entry. The screening took place from August 28 to September 4, according to Prof. Kamilu Rauf, Director of the Computer‑Based Test Centre.

Compared with the previous year, the number of applicants has risen sharply. In 2024 the university received 15,946 UTME applications and 1,175 Direct Entry applications, meaning this year there are 4,200 more UTME candidates and 576 additional Direct Entry applicants. Prof. Rauf attributed the surge to the university’s growing reputation for academic excellence, its uninterrupted academic calendar, and efficient administration. Last year, 12,856 candidates were admitted to the university.

Prof. Rauf reminded candidates and their parents to follow examination guidelines, including dress codes and the prohibition of gadgets such as mobile phones in the examination hall. He also urged parents not to crowd the examination venues, noting that all necessary information is available on the university’s website. The university has reassured applicants that it is prepared to conduct a hitch‑free exercise, provided that all participants strictly adhere to the stipulated guidelines.

The significant increase in applications underscores the University of Ilorin’s popularity among admission seekers. Its reputation for academic excellence, efficient administration, and a stable academic calendar—reflected in the slogan “Better by Far”—continues to attract a large number of prospective students.
