Malami attacked by thugs in Kebbi convoy incident

There is progress when we work together - Malami speaks on meeting with Peter Obi

A convoy carrying former Nigerian Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi. The incident occurred along Old NITEL Road, shortly after Malami returned from a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Imam of Dr. Bello Haliru Jumu’ah Mosque.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, armed with dangerous weapons, damaged several vehicles in the convoy. Security operatives were promptly deployed to the scene, as well as the state headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Malami’s residence, to prevent further unrest.

Malami described the attack as unfortunate, stating that the thugs were armed with dangerous weapons and stones, and destroyed vehicles in his convoy. The APC condemned the assault, with its state Public Relations Officer, Isa Abubakar As-Salafi, vowing to investigate those behind the attack. He also appealed to political actors to preserve peace in Kebbi.

Following an emergency security meeting at the Government House, Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, confirmed that an investigation had begun. He warned political parties against holding unauthorized gatherings or campaigns, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not yet lifted the ban on political activities.

The attack on Malami’s convoy highlights the need for peaceful political interactions in Kebbi State. As the country prepares for future elections, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining law and order. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and authorities are working to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The APC’s commitment to investigating the attack and promoting peace in Kebbi is a positive step towards ensuring a stable political environment. However, the incident also underscores the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between political parties, security agencies, and the community to prevent violence and promote peaceful coexistence.
