Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has secured significant funding for two research projects, totaling over ₦62.9 million. The grants, awarded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Research Fund, will support innovative initiatives in environmental sustainability and clean energy.
According to a statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Adekunle Adams, Dr. Emodi Izuchukwu from the School of Art, Design and Printing received ₦24.1 million to lead a project on transforming marine pollution into art. The research aims to creatively convert marine waste into artworks, promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing maritime opportunities for inclusive economic growth and cultural renewal in Nigeria. A multidisciplinary team, including Chinyere Ndubuisi, Emmanuel Irokanulo, Florence Nweke, and Adenike Ezeagwu, will collaborate on the project to explore innovative methods for converting marine waste into assets.
Additionally, Dr. Akin Olaleru from the School of Engineering was awarded ₦38.8 million for groundbreaking research on hybrid perovskite semiconductors for efficient photovoltaic devices. Olaleru and his co-researchers, including Olufunke Oyebamiji, Olasoji Adekoya, and Matthew Solomon, aim to accelerate Nigeria’s solar power sector through clean energy and sustainable technology research. The project has the potential to drive national growth, industry transformation, and environmental protection.
