Malami attack sparks investigation in Kebbi

An investigation has been launched by the Kebbi State Police Command into an attack on the convoy of former Nigerian Justice Minister and Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami, in Birnin Kebbi. The incident occurred on Monday as Mr. Malami’s convoy was returning from a condolence visit in the state capital.

According to reports, the attack took place after Mr. Malami had resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on July 2 and subsequently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The police have confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Following an emergency security meeting convened by the governor, Commissioner of Police Bello Sani stated that an investigation into the attack had commenced. The meeting was aimed at reviewing security developments in the state, particularly in light of incidents involving political party members and breaches of campaign regulations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The commissioner noted that the incidents occurred in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) and were linked to violations of electoral guidelines. As a result, leaders of political parties will be summoned and cautioned against further breaches. The goal of these measures is to prevent further violence as the elections approach.

Mr. Sani urged political leaders to remain calm and work towards maintaining peace and stability in the state. The police are taking steps to ensure that campaign regulations are adhered to, and any further incidents are prevented. The investigation into the attack on Mr. Malami’s convoy is ongoing, and the police are working to identify those responsible.

The incident highlights the importance of maintaining law and order during the electoral process. As Nigeria prepares for upcoming elections, the police and other security agencies are working to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful and stable environment for all citizens. The outcome of the investigation into the attack on Mr. Malami’s convoy will be closely watched, and any subsequent actions will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
