The Centre for Intellectual Services on the Sokoto Caliphate has announced the recipients of the 2025 Caliphate Award, naming the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Bamalli, as one of the honourees. The award recognises his efforts to promote and preserve relationships among the families of key figures involved in the historic Tafkin Kwato, also known as the Muhajiruna Wal‑Ansar War of the Sokoto Caliphate.
In a statement released by Abdullahi Kwarbai, Media and Publicity Officer of the Zazzau Emirate Council, the Emir’s contributions were described as instrumental in fostering unity and cooperation among these families. The statement, made available to the press in Zaria, emphasises the award’s significance in appreciating the Emir’s role in preserving the history and heritage of the Sokoto Caliphate. The Emir’s great‑grandfather, Musa Bamalli, was a prominent participant in the war, and this legacy underscores the Emir’s continued commitment to the values and principles of the Caliphate.
The award ceremony is scheduled for 11 September, during the Annual General Meeting of Muhajiruna Wal‑Ansar. The Emir will be joined by six other Nigerian recipients and will also chair the occasion, which will feature a keynote lecture by renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Isa Talatan Mafara. This event highlights the importance of preserving historical relationships and cultural heritage, and the Emir’s recognition serves as a testament to his dedication to these causes.
The 2025 Caliphate Award is a significant acknowledgment of individuals’ efforts to promote unity, cooperation, and cultural preservation. The September 11 ceremony will provide a platform to honour the recipients and celebrate the values of the Sokoto Caliphate. With the Emir of Zazzau at the helm, the event is expected to be a notable occasion, underscoring the relevance of historical legacy and cultural heritage in modern times.
