President Bola Tinubu has ordered the recall of Salihu Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, following recent management changes at the agency. According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Dembos, who was appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023, will now return to complete his three-year tenure.
Similarly, the President has directed the recall of Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, to complete his three-year tenure, which is set to end in 2027. Mr. Adewuyi was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024. The directive overrides earlier appointments of a new Director-General, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.
The recall of Mr. Dembos and Mr. Adewuyi comes after a recent announcement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information at the SGF’s Office, stating that Rotimi Pedro would take over as NTA Director-General. The Nigerian Television Authority is a prominent television network in Nigeria, and these management changes are likely to have significant implications for the organization.
The decision to recall Mr. Dembos and Mr. Adewuyi is seen as a move to ensure stability and continuity at the NTA. By allowing them to complete their tenures, President Tinubu may be aiming to provide a sense of direction and leadership at the agency. The move also underscores the importance of the NTA in Nigeria’s media landscape, as a key platform for news, entertainment, and public information.
As the NTA navigates these changes, it is likely that the organization will continue to play a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s media industry. The recall of Mr. Dembos and Mr. Adewuyi is a significant development, and it will be important to monitor how these changes affect the NTA’s operations and output in the coming months. With the media industry in Nigeria continuing to evolve, the NTA’s ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances will be crucial to its success.
