The Nigeria Customs Service Board has approved the promotion of 3,312 senior officers and the appointment of four Deputy Comptroller-Generals and 12 Assistant Comptroller-Generals. This decision was made during the board’s 63rd regular meeting, which was chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

According to the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, the promotions aim to fill vacancies created by the retirement of management team members from various geopolitical zones. The decision reflects the service’s commitment to inclusivity, institutional balance, and adherence to the Federal Character Policy.

The newly appointed Deputy Comptroller-Generals are AB Mohammed, GO Omale, OC Orbih, and D Nnadi, representing the North-West, North-Central, South-South, and South-East zones, respectively. The new Assistant Comptroller-Generals include MP Binga, CA Awo, AB Shuaibu, and 10 others from different zones.

In addition to the senior officer promotions, the board approved the promotion of 202 junior officers from Assistant Inspector to Customs Assistant I. The NCS Management also reviewed the service’s revenue performance for the first half of the year, recording a total revenue collection of N3,682,496,530,576.48, which surpassed the projected revenue by 11.85%.

The board noted that this impressive revenue performance underscores the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, improved compliance by stakeholders, and enhanced deployment of technology in customs operations. In disciplinary matters, the board approved the demotion of two officers and granted reinstatement to two others, demonstrating its commitment to upholding accountability and fairness.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, congratulated the newly appointed and promoted officers, charging them to justify the confidence reposed in them. He reaffirmed the service’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, transparency, and excellence in service delivery, appreciating the Minister of Finance for his continued support and guidance.

The promotions and appointments are expected to strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s capacity in revenue mobilization and enhance its effectiveness in customs operations. The service’s commitment to merit-based career progression and recognition of outstanding performance is also likely to boost staff morale and motivation. With the new appointments and promotions, the NCS is poised to continue delivering on its mandate to facilitate trade and generate revenue for the government.
