PDP Spokesman Criticizes Wike’s Interference

PDP shifts NEC meeting as Saraki panel continues peace talks

A high-ranking official of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly criticized Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike for his repeated interference in the party’s affairs. Abdullahi Ibrahim, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, expressed his discontent with Wike’s actions in an interview with Arise News on Wednesday.

Ibrahim specifically took issue with Wike’s decision to issue six conditions ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention, considering it outrageous given Wike’s current role in an All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The PDP spokesman questioned the legitimacy of Wike’s demands, suggesting that they embarrass the party and undermine its unity.

Although Ibrahim had previously supported Wike’s stance against the party’s zoning arrangement before the 2023 elections, he now believes that Wike’s actions have crossed a line. Ibrahim emphasized that while he had justified Wike’s position in the past, it is time for Wike to stop his interference. The PDP official stressed the need for the party to protect its image and unity by resisting any further attempts at blackmail or distraction.

The criticism comes as the PDP prepares for its national convention, a crucial event that will shape the party’s future. The party has been grappling with internal conflicts and power struggles, and Wike’s actions have exacerbated these tensions. Ibrahim’s statements reflect the growing concern within the PDP about the need to maintain unity and discipline ahead of the convention.

The developments highlight the complex dynamics within Nigeria’s political landscape, where alliances and rivalries often blur party lines. As the PDP navigates its internal challenges, the party’s ability to present a united front will be crucial in its bid to regain power in future elections. With the national convention approaching, the PDP will need to address its internal conflicts and establish a clear direction to remain a viable force in Nigerian politics.
