Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement Special Priority Projects in the Northeast region of Nigeria. The Senator’s appeal comes as Northeast governors recently visited the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Ndume urged the President to include these projects, aimed at developing the Northeast, in the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal. According to Ndume, this measure would address the significant social and infrastructural challenges the region faces, which have been exacerbated by years of terrorism. The Senator noted that despite the decline of terrorism in the region, the Northeast still lacks meaningful infrastructural development, with the past 15 years seeing little progress.
The Senator emphasized the need for the current administration to prioritize the region’s urgent infrastructural needs in the upcoming budgets. Ndume’s statement highlighted the devastating impact of insurgency on the Northeast, which has hindered the region’s development and left it with considerable social and infrastructural challenges.
The visit of Northeast governors to the President may provide an opportunity for discussions on the region’s development and the implementation of priority projects. By including these projects in the budgets, the government can take a crucial step towards addressing the Northeast’s infrastructural needs and promoting the region’s development.
The implementation of Special Priority Projects in the Northeast would be a significant step towards rebuilding and developing the region. As the Nigerian government prepares to allocate funds in the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal, the inclusion of these projects would demonstrate a commitment to addressing the region’s challenges and promoting its growth. The next steps will likely involve further discussions between the government and regional stakeholders to determine the specifics of the projects and their implementation.
