The Nigerian Army has cautioned its officers against using performance‑enhancing supplements or drugs to improve their physical capabilities. This warning was issued by the Chief of Personnel Management, Maj‑Gen. Adewale Adekeye, during the opening of the Nigerian Army Warrant Officers to Master Warrant Officers promotion exercise 2025 at the 2 Division, Nigerian Army Cantonment in Ibadan. Maj‑Gen. Adekeye emphasized that the promotion process is fair and transparent, and officers should not engage in any practices that could jeopardize their health. He advised participants with medical challenges to inform the medical screening committee for prompt attention, stressing that their lives are valuable to the Nigerian Army and their families.

The promotion exercise, which is not a “do‑or‑die” affair, aims to select qualified officers for the Master Warrant Officer rank. Maj‑Gen. Adekeye urged participants to have confidence in the system and shun any form of cheating, warning that attempts to induce favoritism would lead to disqualification. He also encouraged the board members to be objective, diligent, and professional in their evaluation. The exercise will include a compulsory medical examination, weapon handling, drill, current affairs, and general service knowledge tests.

Approximately 490 warrant officers from various formations and units have registered for the exercise, with more expected to join. The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Maj‑Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, commended the Chief of Army Staff for selecting the division to host the exercise. Participants will undergo a rigorous two‑to‑three‑week selection process that will test their technical skills, experience, leadership, and mentorship qualities.

The Nigerian Army’s emphasis on fairness, transparency, and merit‑based promotion reflects its commitment to maintaining a professional and effective force. The outcome of this exercise will be crucial in identifying the next generation of Master Warrant Officers, who will play a vital role in addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
