NNPP Sacks Rep Member Over Alleged Defection to APC

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the removal of Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa, a House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji, from the party. According to Suleiman Hashimu Dungurawa, the Chairman of the NNPP’s Kano Chapter, Kofa was sacked for allegedly seeking a job in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidency.

Dungurawa responded to allegations that the party had not given Kofa a fair chance to defend himself, stating that the party’s actions were justified given Kofa’s public criticism of the NNPP and its presidential candidate, Kwankwaso. “How can you give a chance to someone who went to town attacking your party and showing his readiness to decamp?” Dungurawa asked.

The Chairman explained that the party took decisive action after learning that Kofa was seeking a job in Abuja using the NNPP as a means to an end. Dungurawa cited an interview in which Kofa attacked Kwankwaso and expressed his willingness to leave the party. “What are we waiting for?” Dungurawa said, justifying the party’s decision to remove Kofa.

The NNPP’s decision has been met with support from hundreds of Kwankwasiyya Movements supporters from Kiru, Kofa, and Bebeji, who paid a solidarity visit to Dungurawa and Sunusi Sirajo Madobi, the Special Advisor to Governor Yusuf on political matters. The visit demonstrates the strong backing for the party’s actions and its commitment to upholding its values and principles.

The removal of Kofa from the NNPP is significant, as it highlights the party’s efforts to maintain discipline and cohesion among its members. The incident also underscores the intense political maneuvering and alliances that characterize Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country’s political parties continue to navigate the complexities of coalition-building and power brokering, the NNPP’s decision to remove Kofa serves as a reminder of the importance of party loyalty and discipline in the pursuit of political goals.
