Why I stopped attending church for more than 10 years - Actor Yemi Solade

Nigerian actor Yemi Solade explained that he stopped attending church services over a decade ago after personal experiences conflicted with his career and mental well‑being. In an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Solade recalled a turning point in 2013 when a pastor at his former church told him to decline acting jobs scheduled on Sundays. The directive made him uncomfortable because it directly affected his profession and livelihood, prompting him to reassess the balance between his faith and personal life. Ultimately, he decided to step back from regular church attendance.

Solade emphasized that his absence from church has not harmed his life, contrary to the common belief that one’s life deteriorates without regular worship. On the contrary, he said his life has become more stable and peaceful since he stopped attending services. Freed from the constant pressure of church committees and programs, he has been able to focus better on his family and acting career. He noted that, while he was attending church, he received numerous daily messages and disturbances, which have since ceased.

He clarified that his decision was not a rejection of his faith but a conscious choice to avoid unhealthy pressures that hinder personal growth and productivity. By prioritizing his family and career, Solade has achieved a more peaceful and stable life. Sharing his experience publicly may resonate with others facing similar conflicts between personal and professional responsibilities. As a veteran of Nollywood, Solade’s perspective on balancing faith and personal life is likely to interest his fans and the wider public, highlighting the importance of prioritizing well‑being and making choices that align with one’s values and goals.
