Anambra Leads Nigeria Voter Registration

Our sustained sensitization reason for high voter registration in Anambra - ANCISRO

Anambra State Leads in Voter Registration in Nigeria

The Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office, ANCISRO, has attributed the high number of voter registrations in the state to its sustained sensitization efforts. According to recent figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Anambra State recorded the highest number of new voter registrations in the country, with 168,187 new voters registered in just two weeks. This is the highest number recorded in any comparable period since 2017.

The INEC data shows that women accounted for 58 percent of the new registrants, while young people aged 18-34 made up more than half, indicating a significant increase in civic engagement. In contrast, other states in the South-East region showed relatively low participation, particularly in the online pre-registration phase. Out of 64,696 registrations recorded across the entire zone, Anambra accounted for 62,698, while other states such as Abia, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi recorded significantly lower figures.

The Managing Director of ANCISRO, Mr. Chuka Nnabuife, attributed the success to the agency’s initiatives, including civic education and mobilization programs such as “My Vote, My Duty”, town halls, school outreach, youth forums, and parish sensitization. These efforts engaged various groups, including traders, students, market women, and other active groups, who dominated the registration numbers.

The record registration in Anambra State demonstrates the importance of civic education and mobilization in increasing democratic participation. As the state prepares for the November 8, 2025, governorship election, ANCISRO remains committed to deepening democratic participation, strengthening public trust, and ensuring that every eligible citizen recognizes the importance of registering, collecting their PVC, and turning out to vote.

The high voter registration numbers in Anambra State are a significant development in the lead-up to the 2025 election, and they highlight the importance of civic engagement and participation in the democratic process. With the ongoing INEC online voter registration exercise, ANCISRO is urging citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to register and exercise their right to vote. The success of the democratic process depends on active participation, and the agency’s efforts aim to ensure that every eligible citizen is empowered to make their voice heard.
