Tinubu terminates Umunubo appointment as Special Assistant

The Nigerian presidency has announced the termination of Fegho John Umunubo’s appointment as Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy in the Office of the Vice President, effective immediately. This decision was made public through a statement issued by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House.

According to the statement, Mr Umunubo’s disengagement from his role is a direct result of a decision made by President Bola Tinubu. The presidency has also issued a warning to stakeholders and the general public, advising them against engaging with Mr Umunubo in any capacity that may suggest he represents the administration. The statement emphasized that anyone who interacts with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at their own risk.

Mr Umunubo was initially appointed to his role in 2023, with the primary objective of supporting the Tinubu administration’s efforts to expand Nigeria’s digital and creative economy sectors. However, the reasons behind his dismissal have not been disclosed. The presidency’s decision serves as a clear indication that Mr Umunubo no longer holds any official position or authority to represent the administration in any matters related to the digital and creative economy.

The termination of Mr Umunubo’s appointment and the subsequent warning issued by the presidency are significant developments that underscore the importance of verifying the authenticity and authority of individuals claiming to represent the administration. As the Nigerian government continues to navigate its digital and creative economy initiatives, it is essential for stakeholders and the public to be aware of the official channels and representatives of the presidency.

In light of this development, it is expected that the presidency will announce new appointments or adjustments to its team in the coming days or weeks. The Nigerian government’s commitment to expanding its digital and creative economy sectors remains a key priority, and the termination of Mr Umunubo’s appointment is seen as a step towards ensuring that the administration’s efforts are effectively represented and implemented.
