A local government councillor in Kaduna State, Nigeria, has been released by his kidnappers after four days in captivity. David Ali, representing Gwantu Ward in Sanga Local Government Area, was abducted by a group of five armed men from his residence in Gwantu town late on Thursday. The kidnappers, reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, took Ali away in the presence of his family.
According to the Chairman of Sanga Local Government, Anto Usman, Ali was released between 8 and 9 p.m. on Monday and has been reunited with his family. Usman expressed concern over the activities of informants who aid criminal groups in the area, contributing to pockets of insecurity. However, he noted that the area is relatively stable, with residents going about their daily activities.
To address the security challenges, the local government has been holding regular security meetings to identify and curb hotspots. Usman reported that four arrests have been made this year, with the suspects facing prosecution. He acknowledged that insecurity is an inevitable aspect of human society but expressed optimism that the situation would be brought under control soon.
The chairman praised Governor Uba Sani for enhancing synergy among security agencies across the state, which has helped restore calm in troubled areas. The Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
The release of David Ali is a welcome development in an area that has experienced security challenges. The local government’s efforts to strengthen security and address the root causes of insecurity are crucial in maintaining peace and stability. As the authorities continue to work towards overcoming the security challenges, the release of the councillor is a positive step towards restoring normalcy in the area.
