Former South African cricket captain AB de Villiers has revealed that he was aware of Sourav Ganguly’s appointment as the new coach of the Pretoria Capitals, a South African T20 franchise, well before the official announcement. De Villiers disclosed this information on his YouTube channel, “AB de Villiers 360,” stating that he had private discussions with Ganguly prior to the public announcement.

Ganguly’s appointment as the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals was officially announced on August 24. De Villiers expressed his enthusiasm for the move, calling it “fantastic” for the team. He also hopes that the appointment will pave the way for Indian players who are not contracted with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to participate in the SA T20 tournament.

Recently, the Pretoria Capitals made a significant signing at the SA T20 auction, purchasing Dewald Brevis for R16.5m. Ganguly expressed his happiness with the signing, describing Brevis as a “tremendous talent” who has the potential to be a game-changer in T20 cricket. Brevis had a impressive performance for South Africa during the white-ball tour of Australia, scoring 180 runs in three T20Is at a strike rate of 204.55.

De Villiers noted that it was disappointing that no Indian players were part of the final SA T20 auction, and he hopes that this will change in the future. He encouraged Indian players who are not contracted with the BCCI to consider participating in the SA T20 tournament, stating that it would be beneficial for the growth of the sport.

The appointment of Ganguly as the coach of the Pretoria Capitals and the signing of Brevis are significant developments for the SA T20 tournament. As the tournament continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how these moves impact the team’s performance and the overall landscape of the tournament. With the involvement of high-profile coaches and players, the SA T20 tournament is likely to attract more attention and interest from cricket fans around the world.
