Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has emphasized the importance of peaceful political participation, stating that Permanent Voter’s Cards are the primary tools for citizens to exercise their democratic rights. During the commissioning of the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Augie Local Government Area, Governor Idris encouraged citizens to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise. He clarified a previous statement that was widely misinterpreted, explaining that the “war” he referred to was a political one, to be fought with Permanent Voter’s Cards. Idris stressed the need for citizens to obtain their PVCs, which he believes are essential for ensuring their voices are heard in the democratic process.
The governor’s comments come amidst recent incidents of political violence in the state. He denounced these acts, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate any form of violence. He appealed to citizens to prioritize their democratic rights and participate in the electoral process through lawful means.
Governor Idris’s call for peaceful participation is significant, given the importance of voter registration and the upcoming elections. The ongoing registration exercise aims to increase voter turnout and ensure that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. By emphasizing the importance of PVCs and rejecting political violence, Governor Idris is promoting a message of peace and civic engagement. As the electoral process unfolds, it remains to be seen how effectively this message will be received by citizens and whether it will contribute to a peaceful and successful election in Kebbi State.
