The Nigerian Army is introducing new uniforms for its officers and men, as announced by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, during a visit to the Godwin Ally Barracks in Ogoja, Cross River State. The move is part of the military’s efforts to standardize operational readiness and boost morale under the ‘Soldiers First’ initiative.
According to a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, the new uniforms and essential kits will be distributed to all personnel. Additionally, schools in Army barracks across the country are slated for renovation to provide quality education for soldiers’ children. The COAS emphasized his commitment to personnel welfare, directing the renovation of dilapidated accommodations in the Godwin Ally barracks.
The recent improvements in troop welfare, including an increase in Ration Cash Allowance, were also highlighted by the Army chief. This increase has enabled commanders to provide better feeding for soldiers, enhancing their overall well-being. Oluyede urged troops to uphold professionalism and discipline, stressing the importance of synergy with other security agencies and host communities to achieve lasting peace and stability in the country.
The visit to the Godwin Ally Barracks was part of the COAS’s assessment tour of formations and units under the 82 Division Area of Responsibility. During the visit, Oluyede interacted with troops and expressed appreciation for their efforts despite challenging operational demands. The introduction of new uniforms and the renovation of facilities demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing the lives of its personnel and their families.

By standardizing operational readiness and boosting morale, the Nigerian Army seeks to improve its effectiveness in addressing the country’s security challenges. As the military continues to implement these changes, it is likely to have a positive impact on the overall performance and cohesion of the Nigerian Army.
