ADC Downplays By-Election Loss, Cites Poor Timing

Insecurity: APC, PDP don’t care about Nigerians - ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the public to reserve judgment on the party’s performance in the recent by-elections held across 16 constituencies. The elections, which took place on August 16, aimed to fill vacancies left by lawmakers who died or resigned after the 2023 general elections.

According to reports, the ADC failed to secure any seats, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) winning 12 out of the 16 seats across nine states. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two seats in Anambra, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each secured one seat in Oyo and Kano, respectively.

In a recent interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi attributed the party’s performance to the timing of the election and the party’s level of preparedness. Abdullahi explained that the election occurred less than a month after the party’s transition, leaving little time for the party to establish its leadership and prepare candidates.

Abdullahi emphasized that the party should not be judged solely on the outcome of the by-elections, as the timing was not in their favor. He noted that the party is currently transitioning and establishing its leadership, and the by-elections came too early in the process. The ADC spokesman expressed confidence that the party will be better prepared for upcoming elections.

The ADC’s performance in the by-elections has sparked interest in the party’s future prospects. As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, the ADC will likely face increased scrutiny and competition from other parties. The party’s ability to adapt and prepare for upcoming elections will be crucial in determining its success. With several elections on the horizon, the ADC will have opportunities to redeem itself and demonstrate its strength as a political force in Nigeria.
