Utah seeks death penalty for Charlie Kirk assassin

Utah governor promises death penalty for Charlie Kirk’s killer — RT World News

Utah Governor Spencer Cox has announced that the state will seek the death penalty for the gunman responsible for the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The suspect, who remains at large over 30 hours after the shooting, is the subject of a massive federal manhunt. Authorities have admitted that they are unsure whether the suspect has left the state.

At a press conference, Governor Cox confirmed that state officials will pursue the death penalty once the suspect is caught. “We’ve been working with our attorneys to prepare the necessary affidavits, so we can pursue the death penalty in this case,” Cox said. The governor had previously issued a warning, stating that the perpetrator would be found, tried, and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

The FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the assassin. Director Kash Patel visited the scene of the shooting, near the canopy tent where Kirk was gunned down during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. The agency has released images of a potential suspect, described as a man wearing sunglasses, a black hat, and a long-sleeve black shirt featuring an American flag.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was struck by a single rifle shot while addressing thousands of students on Wednesday. He was rushed to the hospital but later died of his wounds. Officials have described the killing as a targeted political assassination. President Donald Trump has vowed to pursue not only Kirk’s killer but also the networks that fuel political violence, stating that his administration would track down those responsible for perpetrating and funding such attacks.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to apprehend the suspect and bring them to justice. The case has drawn attention to the issue of political violence and the need for accountability. As the search for the suspect continues, officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
