Nigeria Army NSCDC Collaborate Against Boko Haram

Borno: Army, NSCDC pledge stronger collaboration against Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State. This pledge was made during a meeting between the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, and the new Borno NSCDC Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, at the Division’s headquarters in Maiduguri.

Brigadier General Unachukwu emphasized the importance of partnering with the NSCDC in joint training and operations to protect lives and property in communities affected by the insurgency. He stated that the military would continue to build upon this collaboration, particularly in joint operations, training, and response to operational needs. This cooperation is crucial in addressing the security challenges posed by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Commandant Agalama, who recently assumed duty as the 12th NSCDC Commandant in Borno, explained that his visit aimed to strengthen inter-agency relations in tackling security challenges. He highlighted that the NSCDC’s role complements the Army and other security agencies, especially in community protection and emergency response. The NSCDC’s presence is vital in supporting the military’s efforts to safeguard communities and prevent further attacks.

The renewed commitment to collaboration comes at a time when Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters continue to launch attacks on communities and security formations in Borno, raising concerns about the safety of resettled populations. The Nigerian government has been working to ensure the safe return of displaced persons, but the ongoing insurgency poses a significant challenge to this effort.

The partnership between the Nigerian Army and the NSCDC is essential in enhancing the security landscape in Borno State. By working together, they can share intelligence, coordinate operations, and provide a more effective response to the insurgency. This collaboration is critical in protecting civilians and preventing further destabilization in the region. As the security situation in Borno continues to evolve, the Nigerian Army and the NSCDC will likely play a crucial role in maintaining stability and ensuring the safety of communities.
