The African business community is gearing up for the fourth edition of Unstoppable Africa, an event organized by the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI), which will take place on September 21-22 in New York, concurrently with the UN General Assembly. According to Sanda Ojiambo, chief of the United Nations Global Compact, the initiative aims to alter the global perception of Africa and its business landscape.
The Global Africa Business Initiative was launched by the UN Global Compact in 2022, with the objective of amplifying the voices of ambitious African private sector leaders. The initiative has received support from the African Union, underscoring its significance in promoting African business interests. The 2025 edition of Unstoppable Africa will focus on the continent’s role in shaping global markets and its potential for leadership in international trade.
The event will bring together stakeholders from the private sector, governments, and policymakers to discuss the future of African business. Ojiambo emphasized the resilience of the private sector, noting that “even where there is conflict and strife, business will still continue.” The Unstoppable Africa forum has attracted significant attention in its previous editions, with 10 heads of state and over 8,000 participants attending the events, according to the UN.
The initiative’s goals are aligned with the African Union’s efforts to promote economic development and integration on the continent. By providing a platform for African businesses to connect with global stakeholders, Unstoppable Africa aims to facilitate investments, partnerships, and trade opportunities. The event will also address key challenges facing African businesses, such as access to finance, infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks.
As the global business community converges on New York for the UN General Assembly, the Unstoppable Africa event is poised to play a significant role in shaping the conversation on African business and economic development. With its focus on promoting African private sector leadership and entrepreneurship, the initiative has the potential to drive meaningful change and contribute to the continent’s economic growth and prosperity. The fourth edition of Unstoppable Africa is expected to build on the momentum generated by its predecessors, providing a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and explore opportunities for collaboration and investment.
