The wife of the Abia State governor, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has emphasized the importance of teachers in unlocking the potential of school pupils. Speaking in Umuahia, Mrs Otti described teachers as pivotal in shaping the future, urging them to teach with care and compassion to produce future leaders for the state.
Mrs Otti made these remarks while distributing educational materials to pupils during the first phase of the Safe Tent back-to-school outreach for the 2025/2026 academic year. She highlighted the significance of education as the foundation for development and transformation, noting that the donation of educational materials would facilitate access to education for all children, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This initiative complements the free and compulsory education program launched earlier this year by Governor Alex Otti, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities in the state. The program is scheduled to be extended to other parts of Abia State in subsequent phases, with the goal of deepening its impact and reach.
Mrs Otti encouraged parents and pupils to utilize the educational materials effectively, expressing gratitude to key partners for their support of the program. The distribution of educational materials is a critical step in ensuring that all pupils have the necessary tools to succeed in their academic pursuits.
The Abia State government’s focus on education is a strategic effort to promote human capital development and drive economic growth. By prioritizing education, the government aims to empower future generations with the skills and knowledge required to compete in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
As the program progresses, it is expected to have a positive impact on the educational landscape of Abia State, contributing to the overall development of the region. The initiative also underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting education and promoting sustainable development.
