In Jigawa State, a significant shift in political allegiance has occurred, with approximately 792 women defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection ceremony took place in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, where the women were formally received by Amina Umar Namadi, the wife of the governor.
According to Mrs. Namadi, this move reflects the effective leadership of the current administration under Governor Umar Namadi, particularly in its efforts to enhance the lives of citizens, with a focus on women and youth empowerment. She welcomed the new members, emphasizing that the APC remains open to those seeking to contribute to the state’s development.
The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, also spoke at the event, reiterating the administration’s commitment to improving the well-being of ordinary citizens. He highlighted the various programs and policies introduced by the state government since its inception, aimed at fostering development. Ibrahim noted that the present administration has distinguished itself in delivering democratic dividends to its citizens.
Representing the defectors, Amina Waina explained that their decision to join the APC stems from the administration’s demonstration of support for women’s empowerment. The women pledged to continue mobilizing support for the current administration, particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 general election.
This defection underscores the evolving political landscape in Jigawa State, with the APC consolidating its position ahead of future elections. The move is seen as a testament to the perceived effectiveness of the current administration in addressing the needs of its citizens, especially women. As the political dynamics continue to unfold, the significance of this development will likely be closely watched by stakeholders and observers alike.
